Have you ever had moments you wished you could communicate more clearly and with more power?

Do you struggle getting the desired results from announcements and recruiting efforts?

Do you struggle with lesson preparation?

Do you have a fear of speaking to a group of people?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, Ministry Communication Workshop is for you.

Every Christian worker should attend Ministry Communication Workshop because of three ministry changing results.

  1. You will learn to speak in a way that captures your audience’s attention with a memorable presentation that gets the desired outcome.
  1. You will learn to speak confidently in any situation and stay calm with any disruption or schedule change.
  1. You will learn to effectively use gestures and visuals to help your audience get your point.

Components of Ministry Communication Workshop

  1. Morning interactive classes. In the morning you will attend classes where you will learn dynamic communication skills needed for every type of communication. There will be a time of instruction that includes action points to practice what you are learning.
  1. Afternoon small group meeting. In the afternoon you will meet with your small group leader. The men’s small groups will be led by Steve Bender and Lewis McClendon. The ladies’ small groups will be led by Jenell Bender and Karen McClendon. Small group coaches will help you with any questions you have and will guide you through the preparation of speech you will give in the evening.
  1. Evening evaluated speeches. In the evening everyone will give a speech. This is one of the most valuable times in the workshop. Evaluation is the key to growth; information without evaluation equals stagnation. You are in very few settings where a qualified person will give you a loving, positive, honest evaluation of your presentation. Speaking is hard and being evaluated is even harder. Few speakers seek evaluation, and that is why great communicators are rare. As a result of daily evaluated speeches, you will leave the workshop a more confident, dynamic and life-changing speaker.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is for anyone speaking in a ministry setting: pastors, staff, laymen teaching a class and ladies who teach at church or at ladies’ events.

The Coaches

Lewis & Karen McClendon

Lewis and Karen have worked together in ministry since 1971. Lewis has been a youth pastor, executive pastor and Senior Pastor.  Together Lewis and Karen founded Ponderosa Pines Christian Camp, now known as Camp Pondo, in 1982. In 1995 they returned to Ventura Baptist Church, and Lewis became the Senior Pastor in 1998. Once Lewis became the pastor, he and Karen began visiting the missionaries Ventura Baptist Church supported. To date they have been in over 40 countries.  When Lewis had a burden to help missionaries with their presentations, he and Karen put together Missionary Communication Workshop. Karen helps with the manuals and scheduling, and she is a coach for the ladies. Lewis is one of the men’s coaches and teaches some of the classes.

Steve & Jenell Bender

Steve and Jenell were approved as BBF missionaries to Korea in September 1984, where they served until April 1998, at which time God moved them to Springdale, Arkansas. In Springdale, Steve served as associate pastor at Temple Baptist Church until moving to Springfield, MO and becoming Associate Mission Director for the BBFI in August 2000.  Steve travels extensively visiting missionaries on the field and preaching Mission Conferences & Mission Weekends in the USA.  He is passionate about missions and particularly seeing BBF missionaries become even greater communicators of the Gospel. Jenell has had the privilege to sing and speak to audiences all across the United States and many foreign countries.  Jenell is a talented vocalist and gifted Bible teacher. Her desire is to refresh those to whom she speaks by sharing about real life challenges and the grace of a very real and loving Heavenly Father.

Lewis,

I just wanted you to hear again from me on how much value our church received from the communication workshop.  Last Night Mike Smith nailed his sermon on Christ’s temptation from Luke 4.  Also Dustin, Dion and Micah are all on the winter preaching schedule for the Boulevard retirement center’s Sunday service.  Dustin has also lead a couple lessons in the High school youth group. Dion is teaching one of our adult bible fellowships.  Both Nathan and Andrew have utilized the material several times.  Andrew used it just yesterday when giving an announcement that was more motivational than informational.  I’ve had several people comment to me about the memorable illustrations/props I’ve used in the last few weeks. God also helped us in our Intern banquet exceed our goal of 35,000 raise over the next three years for that particular ministry. We have received 44,000 in commitments and 19,000 has already been given. (Nathan, Andrew, Kurtis and I all used what we learned in the workshop in that one evening to cast a vision and share what God is doing.) I used Sarah to give a testimony during a sermon before Christmas. She did great.  Last Monday night Kurtis and I led our annual Men’s meeting which is a recap of the previous years finances and a presentation of the next years budget and goals.  We had a potential hostile crowd since the numbers last year weren’t very good. But we confidently took questions, repeating the questions, and provided answers that where positive and on point.

We already have a hermeneutics class we take  church members through, we are thinking about following that class up with a communication/homiletics class to help prepare more teachers for all levels of ministry in our church.  The most often response we get when asking people to teach a Sunday school class is that I’ve never been taught how to teach… we want to offer a class to help them overcome that hurdle.  We would obviously use much of your material if that would be ok.
Thanks for your teams investment in our church.  As a pastor, I so appreciate your example of fruitfulness at this stage of your life.  You and Karen have so much to offer Christ’s church.  You are both a blessing.
Pastor Kevin
